Here I am again with another international interview. This one comes right from Italy. Is the beautiful cosplayer and cosmaker Federica Di Nardo, more known as Federica DN.

Aquí estoy de nuevo con una entrevista internacional. Esta viene directo desde Italia. Es la bella cosplayer y cosmaker Federica Di Nardo, más conocida como Federica DN.

1. When did you start cosplaying and what was your first cosplay?

I started in 2005.. my first cosplay was something really easy: Licia from Kiss Me Licia.
We organized a little group and a quick performance...it was an amazing day, since then I fell in love with Cosplay, and it became my most important passion!

Cuándo te iniciaste como cosplayer y cuál fue tu primer personaje?
Fue en 2005... mi primer cosplay fue algo muy sencillo: Licia de Kiss Me Licia. Organizamos un pequeño grupo y una presentación breve... fue un día genial, desde ese momento me enamoré del Cosplay, y se ha convertido en mi más grande pasión.

2. How do you choose the character you're going to do cosplay of?

Usually I love to challenge myself in difficult things, because I love to create, so I tend to choose characters with some crazy outfit...but this is not the only parameter: I also pay attention to the resemblance, so that I can be more credible and "Ok".
Last but not least well... I Cosplay characters I love and that I feel empathy with!

Cómo eliges el personaje del que harás cosplay?

Usualmente amo retarne con trabajos difíciles, porque me encanta crear, así que tiendo a elegir personajes con atuendos loquísimos... pero no es el único parámetro: También presto atención al parecido conmigo, para hacerlo más creíble y aceptable.
Y último pero no menos importante... Hago Cosplay de personajes a quienes amo y por quienes siento empatía.

3. Your cosplays are from different medias, ¿what makes you go out of the typical anime cosplay to explore in the videogames, movies...?

I'm an eclectic person, and this tend to reflect on the Cosplay side as well... I like Anime, Manga, but I'm also in love with Videogames... the protagonists are usually strong heroines with a great sense of justice, or with some life principles... I love this, cause I'm always been dreaming of adventures and exotic places!

Tus cosplays son de diferentes orígenes, ¿qué te ha hecho salir del típico cosplay de anime para explorar personajes de videojuegos, películas...?
Soy una persona ecléctica, y esto tiende a reflejarse en mis cosplays. Me gustan el anime y el manga, pero también amo los videojuegos... las protagonistas suelen ser fuertes heroínas con un gran sentido de la justicia, o con algunos principios de la vida... Me encanta esto, porque yo siempre estoy soñando con aventuras y lugares exóticos!

4. What is your typical outfit when you're not cosplaying?

Well..I'm a Fashion Blogger at www.thecutielicious.com !
I love style...but I have mine! I like to mix things, I like to be colourful, and especially I love leggings. I have a real collection of printed ones: Galaxy, striped, coloured, with various sky themes, snowflake... An obsession!

Cuál es tu atuendo 'típico' cuando no estás en cosplay?

Bueno... Tengo un blog de moda: www.thecutielicious.com
Me gusta el estilo... pero tengo un estilo propio! Me encanta mezclar cosas, me gusta jugar con los colores, y especialmente me fascinan los leggings. Tengo una gran colección de leggings estampados: con galaxias, rayas, diferentes colores, copos de nieve... es una obsesión!

5. You have been cosplaying since 2005, do you think Cosplay and Cosplayers in Italia are getting better, worse or keep the same?

During my "Cosplay Career" I saw a real evolution of Cosplay in our country. Everything keeps getting better and better: Weapons, costumes, craftsmanship, attention to details but also the performance are more and more captivating... always more frequently Cosplayers make real scenic design for their skit on the stage... and this year we're World Champions for the 3rd time :P

Has hecho cosplay desde el 2005, ¿crees que el Cosplay y los Cosplayers en Italia están mejorando, empeorando o se mantienen igual?
Durante mi "carrera como Cosplayer" he visto una evolución real del Cosplay en nuestro país. Todo se pone cada vez mejor y mejor: Armas, trajes, accesorios y trabajos artesanales, la atención a los detalles. También las actuaciones son cada vez más cautivantes... ahora con mayor frecuencia los Cosplayers hacen un diseño escénico real para sus actuaciones en el escenario... y este año somos campeones del mundo por tercera vez :P

6. What is your favorite cosplay until now or your favorite photoshoot?

My favourite one is Silmeria from Valkyrie Profile. I'm so in love with that costume, because it was my first armour... and at that time I absolutely didn't know how to create something like that... I experimented a lot, but it was worth it, satisfaction was quite fulfilling.

Speaking about photoshoots I have many faves... Memoirs of a Geisha one, Princess of the Crystal... I really love how a picture can portrait a costume.

Cuál es tu cosplay o sesión fotográfica favorita hasta el momento?
Mi favorito es Silmeria de Valkyrie Profile. Estoy tan enamorada de ese traje, porque era mi primera armadura ... y en ese momento yo no sabía absolutamente cómo crear algo así ... Experimenté mucho, pero valió la pena, quedé bastante satisfecha.
Hablando de sesiones fotográficas sí tengo muchas favoritas... Memorias de una Geisha es una, la princesa del Cristal... Me encanta cómo una imagen puede captar la esencia de un cosplay.

7. How do social media (Facebook, DeviantArt...) help cosplayers?

They help so much!

They make you connect with the community and get in touch with other people like you, furthermore they can be a great help if you're looking for something, like how to create something.. I always get inspiration from other Cosplayers!

Cómo ayudan las redes sociales como Facebook o DeviantArt a los cosplayer?

Ayudan muchísimo!
Te permiten conectarte con la comunidad y estar en contacto con gente como tú, además son de gran ayuda cuando estás buscando algo (por ejemplo, cómo se puede hacer cierto elemento) Siempre recibo mucha inspiración del trabajo de otros cosplayers!

8. What do you enjoy the most in the process of cosmaking?

Planning is my favourite part. When I have to put the idea on paper so that the realization will be easier and much more precise... it's funny, it's like a game...you see the works that keeps growing..and you can really feel proud of yourself!

Qué es lo que más disfrutas en el proceso de creación de un cosplay?
Mi parte favorita es la planeación. Cuando se debe poner la idea en papel para que la realización sea más fácil y precisa... es divertida, es como un juego... ves como la labor va avanzando... y puedes sentirte realmente orgullosa de ti misma!

9. Do you call yourself 'otaku'? What is your opinion of the otakus?

I'm not an Otaku... I love Manga but I'd not define myself this way.
Personally I think having a great and absolute passion for something is really admirable...

whatever this passion is about!

Te consideras 'otaku'? Cuál es tu opinión de los otakus?
No soy Otaku... Amo el manga pero no me definiría de esa manera.
Personalmente creo que tener una gran y fuerte pasión por algo es realmente admirable...
no importa cuál sea esa pasión!

10. Share a message for the people that is starting cosplaying and cosmaking.

Remember to enjoy, Cosplay is not a match... you do it for yourself!
And try to learn everything you can from experiences...with Cosplay you can learn and have fun!
